The answer changes with the route
These examples show why “Does Praxis transfer?” is not a yes-or-no reciprocity question. Each statement belongs to a specific state pathway and can change.
Tennessee
The current FAQ states that professional out-of-state license holders do not submit assessments for the Tennessee Professional license, though specified endorsements can still require Tennessee literacy evidence.

PTSB accepts an exam that was required to obtain the source license or become eligible in the state where the preparation program was completed.

Utah
For preparation completed outside Utah, USBE applies the testing requirements of the state where the program is based rather than imposing a Utah test that the program state did not require.

Do Praxis scores transfer between states?
You can have ETS report a Praxis score to another state agency, but acceptance is not automatic. The destination decides which test, score, endorsement and reciprocity route count for its license.
Will I have to retake the Praxis when I move?
Maybe. You may avoid another test when the destination accepts your existing score, relies on the test required by your preparation state or waives testing for your license and experience. You may need a new test when the destination uses another exam, test version, score or endorsement rule.
Can two states require different passing scores for the same Praxis test?
Yes. ETS develops and reports Praxis tests, but state licensing agencies set their own qualifying scores. A score that cleared one state's requirement may fall below another state's threshold.
What if the destination state does not use Praxis?
Your prior Praxis score may still document what you completed, but it does not replace a different state assessment unless that agency's reciprocity rule accepts it, grants a waiver or issues a credential with a later condition.
Can experience or a professional license waive testing?
Sometimes. The state may tie a waiver to a full professional source license, qualifying years of experience, completed preparation or a matching endorsement. Those details matter more than the word reciprocity.
How long can ETS report an older Praxis score?
ETS currently says scores for discontinued tests remain valid and reportable for ten years. The destination can still apply its current test, score and credential rules, so reportability does not by itself prove acceptance.
