The renewal record

The categories sit inside one six-credit total

College credit and approved Florida inservice points can be combined. The students-with-disabilities, reading and leadership requirements do not add to the six-credit total, but each applicable minimum still has to be met.

01

Total

Six semester hours of college credit or the equivalent during the current validity period

02

Students with disabilities

At least one credit or 20 inservice points inside the total

04

What TeachPassport checks

A transcript or point total is only part of the answer

Correct validity period

Renewal credit must be earned during the certificate period and before expiration.

Required category

The completion record must support each category used in the calculation.

Official finish

The teacher signs in, reviews the affidavit and submits through Florida or the employing district.

Timing

Ordinary renewal and late renewal are different paths

Before expiration

Department: $75

Complete the requirements during the validity period and submit the renewal application before the Professional Certificate expires.

After expiration

Department: $105

Late renewal is limited to credit completed before expiration and must be submitted before July 1 of the following year.

If your district processes the renewal, confirm its fee with the certification office.

Florida changed reinstatement law on July 1, 2026. The calculator stops instead of applying older subject-exam instructions when the late-renewal path no longer fits.

Florida renewal questions

How much credit is required to renew a Florida Professional Certificate?

Florida requires six semester hours of college credit or the equivalent during the current validity period. At least three credits must apply to each subject you are keeping. Shared credit counts once in the total. Twenty approved Florida inservice points equal one semester hour.

Does Florida require students-with-disabilities credit?

Yes. At least one of the six semester-hour equivalents must cover teaching students with disabilities.

Who needs the science-of-reading renewal credit?

For affected validity periods, Florida requires two college credits, 40 inservice points or a combination for listed elementary, English, reading, ESOL and Exceptional Student Education coverages.

Can a Florida Temporary Certificate be renewed?

No. Florida describes the Temporary Certificate as nonrenewable. Its holder follows the requirements for an initial Professional Certificate instead.

What is the Florida teacher certificate renewal fee?

The Department charges $75 for an ordinary Professional Certificate renewal or $105 for a qualifying late renewal. If you work for a Florida district, its certification office processes your renewal. Ask it for the fee, which cannot exceed the Department amount.

Can I renew after my Florida Professional Certificate expires?

A late renewal is available before July 1 of the year after expiration only when all renewal credit and every applicable category were completed before the certificate expired. Other cases use reinstatement.
