What the state says

Start with the certificate title in MOECS

Michigan does not give every five-year teaching certificate the same alternatives. The check above covers the certificate levels named here.

  • 01

Standard: 150 education-related hours, or a one-time education-related master’s or higher degree, or a one-time valid out-of-state teaching certificate. A one-time option must not have been used for an earlier renewal.

  • 02

Professional: 150 education-related hours, or a one-time valid out-of-state K-12 teaching certificate that was not used for an earlier renewal.

  • 03

Advanced Professional: 150 education-related hours. Michigan does not list the degree or out-of-state alternatives for this renewal.

  • 04

Learning hours must match the certificate or endorsement and be completed since the most recent certificate was issued. A School Counselor endorsement also has a 50-hour distribution.
