California
Two years opens a different route
California publishes a route for teachers with a professional out-of-state license and at least two years of full-time out-of-state teaching. It requires an employer verification letter and two satisfactory annual evaluations.

Texas
Experience can support an exam exemption
Texas has a test-based option that requires at least one year of verified classroom experience and an experience-based option at three years. The employing school must send the verification, and experience alone does not clear the Science of Teaching Reading exam.

Properly verified service may be credited
North Carolina says properly verified K-12 teaching experience may be credited using its Form E. Three or more years can also change how comparable out-of-state licensure tests are treated.

Does teaching experience transfer between states?
Not automatically. A destination state may count verified experience toward a credential route, testing exemption or license level, but it decides which service qualifies and which proof must be submitted.
What kind of teaching experience counts for reciprocity?
It depends on the state. Rules can distinguish full-time from part-time service, teacher-of-record work from substitute teaching, public from private schools, the credential held during service, the subject taught and how recently the work occurred.
How do I verify teaching experience for another state?
Start with the destination agency's current form or letter instructions. A former employer may need to confirm your role, dates, full-time status, school accreditation and performance, and some agencies require HR or the district to send the verification directly.
Can teaching experience waive another state’s exams?
Sometimes. The waiver may require a specific number of verified years, a matching professional license, prior exam evidence or service in the requested certificate area. Experience rarely works as a blanket waiver for every assessment.
Will substitute or part-time teaching count?
Maybe, but do not assume it will. Some routes require full-time contracted classroom teaching and exclude day-to-day substitute work. Other states apply different definitions, so compare your service with the destination's published rule.
Should I request an experience letter before leaving my school?

Does license credit mean my years will count for salary or seniority?
