Does Louisiana accept out-of-state teaching licenses?
An out-of-state license can open a path to Louisiana certification, but it does not transfer automatically. The state decides which certificate, endorsements, tests or additional requirements apply.

Experience and degree set the level
With aligned Louisiana exams complete, verified experience below three years supports Level 1, at least three years supports Level 2, and at least five years plus a graduate degree supports Level 3; otherwise the three-year OS bridge generally applies.
Praxis controls the bridge
The three-year Out-of-State certificate gives an otherwise qualified educator time to complete Louisiana Praxis requirements; completed aligned Praxis or qualifying experience and National Board evidence can change the resulting level.
Core evidence
The portal review uses official degree and preparation records, source certification, program-status verification, student teaching or experience evidence, examination records and a current professional-conduct form.
Recent-service boundary
If the educator has not successfully taught for at least one year within the past five years, Louisiana issues a one-year nonrenewable OS1 certificate before the OS or professional level can be issued.
