The state, institution, employer or testing provider may need to send some records directly.

Core application evidence

Requirement

The reciprocity process uses the TEACH application, current source certificate, fingerprints and optional employment-experience verification; official transcripts are not required when NDE can use reciprocity.

Which application this evidence supports

Nebraska now uses reciprocity for a valid, unencumbered regular out-of-state teaching certificate obtained through a completed educator preparation program.

What can change this answer

The streamlined branch requires a current regular certificate that is neither restricted nor encumbered and is based on completed preparation; expired credentials and out-of-state alternative programs use Nebraska's Alternative Program Teaching Permit instead.

Conditions to resolve before sending records

  • The source certificate must be valid, unencumbered and regular
  • The certificate must have been obtained through completion of an educator preparation program
  • Expired source certificates and alternative-program credentials use a different permit route
  • Nebraska no longer requires a content test for teaching certificates and does not require transcripts when reciprocity can be used

Send identity documents and background records only where the state agency instructs. TeachPassport does not receive them.
