How to find the right Texas record

  1. 01Enter both the educator's first and last name.
  2. 02Use the name as it appears in the TEA database; a nickname or former name may not match.
  3. 03Open the certificate result to see current credentials and any certificate history available.

Record timing

TEA says the official record date at the bottom of a virtual certificate should show the current date. Refresh or clear browser data if an older record date appears.

What the record shows for Intern and Probationary certificates

An Intern or Probationary Certificate is issued through your educator preparation program, not through this five-year Standard Certificate renewal rule. TEA moves it to a Standard Certificate through your program’s recommendation and your own ECOS application once you finish, not through a renewal.

  • •Check the spelling and try the educator's full legal or former name.
  • •If you are the educator, sign in to TEAL and open your ECOS certification account.
  • •For a pending out-of-state application, check View Certificates and Application/Fee Status in ECOS.

Issued certificate vs. pending application

The public lookup is the issued-certificate record. A pending application belongs in the educator's private TEAL/ECOS account, where TEA shows application and fee status.
