The usual steps
- Create a New Mexico Professional Licensure Bureau account
- Select the reciprocal teaching license and requested level
- Upload a current valid comparable source license
- Arrange official degree and preparation records
- Submit state-issued experience verification for the applicable level
- Provide the exams and endorsement evidence used for the source credential
- Complete the New Mexico fingerprint-based background check
What can change your path
- • Level 1 is the branch for fewer than three full school years of qualifying service
- • Level 2 requires at least three full school years while holding a standard credential
- • Level 3-A requires at least six full school years and a qualifying master's degree or National Board certification
- • A source license alone creates no presumption that PED will issue the requested license or endorsement

Three experience levels
New Mexico's reciprocity rule separates Level 1 below three qualifying school years, Level 2 at three or more, and Level 3-A at six or more with the additional graduate-degree or National Board requirement.
Prior exams and endorsements
Level 2 and Level 3-A applicants provide the test scores used for licensure and must show the required credit hours or accepted test evidence for each endorsement sought.
Core evidence
The reciprocal review uses the current comparable source license, degree and approved-preparation records, verified experience, prior score reports, endorsement evidence and fingerprint clearance.
One-year evidence window
The applicant bears the burden of proof and has one calendar year after the licensure bureau receives the application to provide documents that change the license level; after that, a new application is required.
