Before you search
How to find the right California record
- 01Use the public Search for an Educator option.
- 02Enter the educator's first and last name.
- 03Review all matches carefully because the Commission warns that a name search can return more than one person.
What the public record can answer
California Commission on Teacher Credentialing
- 01
Credentials, certificates and permits held by the educator
- 02
Current and historical document status shown by the Commission
- 03
Adverse or Commission actions when the public record includes them
Record timing
The Commission says changes, updates and corrections can take up to three working days to appear in the public lookup.
If the search comes up empty
Check these before you stop
- •Recheck the exact first and last name used on the credential record.
- •Allow for the Commission's stated update window before searching again after a correction.
- •Use the private educator account for a pending application or contact the Commission about a record issue.
Issued certificate vs. pending application
The public search is an issued-credential record. California provides a separate private application-status process for applicants and records pending additional evaluation.
