Maryland State Department of Education record help

Why isn’t my Maryland teacher certificate showing up?

A missing public result does not, by itself, prove that a certificate never existed or that an application was denied. Check what this state publishes, retry the official search carefully and then use the right private or historical record process.

Retry the official Maryland search

The search happens on the agency site. TeachPassport does not receive the name, credential number or result you enter there.

First check

Search the record the way Maryland State Department of Education expects

  1. 01Open Public Search for Maryland License Holders in the official certification hub.
  2. 02Enter the identifying fields requested by MSDE directly on the state portal.
  3. 03Open the matching educator record and review the credential information shown by MSDE.

What this public record includes

Maryland State Department of Education

  • 01

Maryland educator credentials available through MSDE's public verification search

  • 02

The public license-holder record maintained in the state's certification hub

  • 03

An issued credential record separate from a private application in TEACH

Record timing

A public search miss does not decide a pending application. MSDE's published processing window applies to completed applications; missing information or agency requests can keep a file from being complete.

If the result is still missing

Use the right next record

  • Check the identifying information against the educator's Maryland record.
  • Remember that an application still being processed is not yet an issued public license.
  • If you are the applicant, sign in to TEACH to review the application and any agency requests.

Pending application

A pending file may not belong in the public lookup

MSDE separates its public license-holder search from the private TEACH application account. The agency says completed applications are processed within eight weeks of submission, but applicants should use TEACH for their actual file status.
