Iowa Department of Education record help

Why isn’t my Iowa teacher certificate showing up?

A missing public result does not, by itself, prove that a certificate never existed or that an application was denied. Check what this state publishes, retry the official search carefully and then use the right private or historical record process.

Retry the official Iowa search

The search happens on the agency site. TeachPassport does not receive the name, credential number or result you enter there.

First check

Search the record the way Iowa Department of Education expects

  1. 01Search by first and last name; Iowa suggests entering at least three letters in each field.
  2. 02Search by Folder Number when you know it; the state search accepts four or more numbers.
  3. 03On the results page, choose the educator's name to open the detailed license record.

What this public record includes

Iowa Department of Education

  • 01

The educator licenses and authorizations Iowa makes public

  • 02

The state's website version of the license, which Iowa treats as the official record

  • 03

Assignment information included as a courtesy to help identify the correct person

Record timing

Iowa says applications may take up to six weeks to process and asks applicants not to contact the office before then. The licensure site currently recommends applying eight weeks before an expiration date to avoid delays.

If the result is still missing

Use the right next record

  • Check the spelling and try the educator's current or former name.
  • Use the Folder Number when available to avoid relying on a name match.
  • For your own pending application, sign in to the private application system and check whether the status is Pending - Internal Review.

Pending application

A pending file may not belong in the public lookup

Iowa tells applicants to check application status inside their own account. Pending - Internal Review means the application was submitted. The public search can show whether a transaction has finished processing, but the private account is the current source while it is under review.
